Designing for 3D Etching-Imagery & Space in Metal

Carol Webb, Instructor, with Torch in Hand

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION
Initially, we will etch a line and dot reference sampler. We will use paper and acetate to combine images for the purpose of creating a small layered artwork combining various etching applications and patinas, then assemble those layers with 00-90 brass screws and nuts. Using table etching and spray etching methods, we will etch through cooper, brass and nickel silver based alloys. Carol will demonstrate black, brown, green and especially a dynamic red patina. The class fee includes materials and kit fee. Students should have mastered basic jewelry techniques. Carol will bring her copier and a lot of samples both of artwork and etched results. She will also touch on the use of a digital camera and the computer.
