The Dec 6th evening opening Artists Reception for the “Mind, Heart, Hand: From the Metal Artists’s Studio” exhibition was very well attended for many hours. The exhibit is located on the third floor of the Santa Cruz Museum of Art & History in the “Art Forum” room at the top of the stairs.
We, the artists, happily found our names on the walls of the museum near the metal art we had created. Necklaces by Helene Daniels and Nancy Finley, the “Wasp” by Emmy MacKenzie, “The Swarm” by Nancy Yee, and the “Wren” brooch by Sarah King-Wren are some of the 65 pieces on exhibit for the first time, all of which were created by 39 members of the Monterey Bay Metal Arts Guild (MBMAG).
An interactive Chasing and Repousse’ station brings visitors in on the action by encouraging them to create metal art on site. Many large images were incorporated around the room and helped draw the visitors in to look inside the cases.
Kay Morrison stands near the larger-than-life image of her “Ruched” Cuff bracelet. Anna Belom’s “Jupiter and Her Moons” was also shown in a larger-than-life wall image.
We even had a mother and son showing their metal art in “Mind, Heart, Hand” … Pat Evans and Brian Evans. Shown below is Brian Evans’ sculpture “Reaching Down”, which brings us to an appreciative thank you to Dorie Green (below left, in green) and Toni Danzig (below right) for organizing this exciting show.
If you’d like to see photographs of all the pieces in the exhibit and to read the accompanying artists statement, the museum has a copy of exhibition book created by Dorie Green inside the Art Forum room for visitors to read.
To purchase your own copy of the exhibit book, either contact Dorie Green or click here.
Thank you to all the artists who kindly posed for photographs. Look for more artist reception photographs soon on the MBMAG Facebook group.
