A one day workshop

MBMAG sponsored a workshop led by member artist Melissa Zahm. The workshop was held at the Soquel Glen Park Club House in Soquel from 10 am – 3 pm
The small workshop accommodated the maximum of 10 people.
Fee was $75
Class description:
Member artists joined Melissa in an exciting exploration of copper staining. The method of adding color to copper pieces without any need for kilns or torches creates a durable and long-lasting finish. Small textured copper pieces up to large scale sculptural works can be colored in a variety of ways in this simple and fun exploration of color.
The $75 fee for this workshop included a $10 materials fee. Participants received some copper and stains in four intermixable colors to use and to take home. All other tools were provided. Artists brought scrap copper to experiment which they textured beforehand or during the workshop. Artists brought their favorite stamping and texturing tools Since the stains are permanent, it was important to dress accordingly.
We used PNP film and a Teflon griddle to apply an image resist onto the bi metal sheet. The copper layer was etched through to the silver leaving the design in the copper. The etched bi-metal laminate could then be used to create future works of art.
The workshop included information on soldering, final finishing of the bi-metal and patina usage.
