Summer 2020 Design Challenge Results

white with black outlines of two hammers crossed over

Last January we challenged the membership to create a wearable piece of work which would include at least eight pieces from a kit.

The results were fantastic and creative as we would expect.  The pieces were voted on earlier this month and winners elected by the members, as shown here.

The winners were announced by email and are listed below:

First Place
$ 250
Nancy Yee

Second Place
$ 150
Lynn Guenther

Third Place
$ 100
Susan Shallenberger

Now it is time to auction some of the pieces.

If you are interested in a work, please contact the artist directly and make an offer.  Put MBMAG Summer Challenge Bid in the subject line of your email.

The presentation will be held via Zoom. You must pre-register, and you must be a member of MBMAG to attend. Once you are registered, we will send you the link and password for the Zoom meeting. Our Zoom room is limited to 99 participants, plus Nicole. First come, first served!

You do not have to have attended the first presentation to enjoy this one, although we recommend that you read through the first presentation PowerPoint slides.

Exhibit opens August 26, 2020
Call for Artist will go out on April 20, 2020

Members of MBMAG will be invited to exhibit metal work in the beautiful and historic Pajaro Valley Art Center in Watsonville. All are encouraged to participate.

The Guild had a successful exhibit at the PVAC in 2017, and PVAC has invited us back. We will accept up to three pieces per artist, and sculpture is encouraged. The theme of the exhibit, “Reflections”, can be used as a stepping off place for your work and can be interpreted as you see fit.

Exhibit entry fee to MBMAG is $35. You must be a current member of MBMAG to enter. Membership in PVAC is optional, but encouraged. See: pvarts.org/

For items that sell, PVAC will take 30% if you are a member of PVAC and 45% if you are a non-member.

Plus: There will be a gift area (very successful last time). Show participants may put up to 10 pieces. Work should have a value of $100.00 or less. As items are sold you can replace them.

We are looking for volunteers to work on this exhibit. These are the project leaders:
Educational displays – Pat Evans
Installation – Toni Danzig
Recruitment of sponsors – project leader needed.
Gift area organization – Marylou Forrest
Marketing – Margie Moran and Ron Baldwin
Moving of cases and vitrines – Courtney Scruggs

Please let Toni Danzig, tonidan@comcast.net, know if you are interested in helping in any of these areas. Your participation is appreciated.

MBMAG 2020 “Reflections” Exhibit at PVAC Postponed

Hello MBMAG members,

Due to the current health concerns we are all making adjustments and the PVAC exhibit “Reflections” is no exception.

PVAC is, and has been, closed even though they have hung but not opened the current exhibit “Campesino”. With this important show yet to be seen, they have asked if we would consider rescheduling our exhibit until next year.

The MBMAG board has agreed. I will be letting everyone know of a new date as soon as it is set.

Thank you all and most importantly, be well.

Toni Danzig
Chair, Exhibits Committee
